Blown away hearing live the new songs
One of my favorite concerts of all time. Mosh pit was huge. I worked my way to within a foot of the stage standing right under Mick Jones. I had not heard their new album Combat Rock yet (it had come out a month earlier), and was blown away hearing live the new songs. I especially remember Rock the Casbah, Straight to Hell, and especially Should I Stay or Should I Go. It was almost a religious experience. The Clash concert reviews, tour history | loudmemories

Hey, great to read about that wonderful concert! I was a very, very young child then—I snuck out of my cradle.
The Skateboarder review is exactly accurate, and the SD Reader is wrong where they contradict: the atmosphere was really fun despite the occasional assholes; the lights weren’t on the whole time but were switched on soon enough by the police safety officers after Joe asked us to get out of our seats and dance — and we did!
I’d been to many concerts and shows by then, but I didn’t notice that the hall wasn’t full because… I had never, and still never have, seen so many lovely-looking women in one place. Proverbial California girls from 13 to 30, in every imaginable style — surf, hippy, punk, emerging new wave, and everything in between.
I got close to the speaker stack on the left. Driving home, my left ear made blecchhh sounds like a blown-out speaker whenever certain notes came on the radio. I feared permanent damage, but the nasty sound effect faded by the end of the week.
